American Airlines is strategically enhancing its operations at Chicago O’Hare International Airport this year, the airline announced on Thursday.
Beginning in June, the airline will launch new flight services to several destinations. These include Bismarck, North Dakota; Boise, Idaho; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Spokane, Washington; Hyannis, Massachusetts; and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Most of these routes will be operated with Embraer 175 aircraft, known for their fuel efficiency and comfortable seating arrangements. However, Colorado Springs will be served by a Bombardier aircraft, which offers similar capacity and amenities tailored for regional travel.
Among these new routes, the addition of service to Honolulu (HNL) this fall stands out as particularly significant. This direct connection will not only cater to leisure travelers seeking tropical getaways but also facilitate business travel, thereby bolstering American Airlines’ presence in one of the most desirable holiday destinations.
“O’Hare has always been a vital hub for American, connecting the Midwest to our global network and bringing travelers from across the world to Chicago for business and pleasure,” said Ben Humphrey, American’s Vice President of ORD Operations in a press release, “Strengthening our network is a promise to our customers that we’ll continue to provide exceptional service to the places they want to go. And it reinforces to our partners and stakeholders that we’ll be an economic driver for the region well into the future — all powered by our Chicago team members who are the best at putting our customers first.”
American Airlines will begin service in the spring from Chicago to Madrid, and on May 6, to Naples, Italy. These routes will be operated with Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
American Airlines announced that this summer, customers will have the option to fly in a premium cabin on every flight departing from O’Hare. Beginning in June, all services from O’Hare will be operated using larger, dual-class aircraft. The airline states that it will provide 40% more premium seats from O’Hare compared to last summer.
