Delta Airlines Flight 4819, which was en route from Minneapolis to Toronto, experienced a serious accident upon landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday afternoon. The aircraft, a regional jet, crashed and flipped onto its roof shortly after touching down on the runway, sending shockwaves through the airport and prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
Initial reports from Delta Airlines indicate that, thankfully, there were no fatalities among the 80 individuals on board. However, 18 passengers sustained various injuries and were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Delta has expressed that its foremost priority is to provide support and care for those affected by this unfortunate incident.
According to reports from ABC News, among the injured, three individuals are in critical condition: a young child, a man in his 60s, and a woman in her 40s. Additionally, 12 other passengers are being treated for minor injuries, which, while concerning, do not appear to be life-threatening.
The plane was carrying a total of 76 passengers and four crew members. Following the single-aircraft accident, all individuals on board were evacuated safely, as confirmed by both Delta Airlines and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Videos shared on social media captured the alarming scene, showing the airliner inverted on the tarmac shortly after 2 p.m. Passengers were seen hastily exiting the aircraft, while first responders worked diligently to address the situation, using hoses to spray down the plane amidst snowy conditions on the airfield.
As of now, there is no immediate information regarding the cause of the crash, and investigations are likely to be underway to determine what led to this distressing event.
