Let's Take a Day Trip

Since its inception, Google Flights has provided travelers with fares from all the major carriers except Southwest Airlines (S.W.A.).

The search engine enhanced the traveling experience and helped consumers track flight prices to snag the best deal. Now, Google Flights has stepped up its game and added Southwest fares to the mix.

As of Wednesday, Southwest flights can now be seen alongside all the other airlines. Before this partnership, you would see the flight times of a few Southwest flights, but you had to go to the carrier’s website to find out how much the ticket would cost. 

With Southwest Airlines joining Google Flights, travelers will have a more accurate depiction of a trip’s cost. Additionally, when S.W.A. has one of its signature $39 sales or any sale for that matter — consumers will win because they’ll see the whole picture before booking their flights. 

Why is this such a big deal?

Til this day, travelers could score cheap flights using third party websites like Expedia, Priceline and Google Flights. However, Southwest Airlines’ fares weren’t available forcing people to go to the carrier’s website to find out how much the tickets would cost.

Southwest joining the fray makes planning simple. For example, I love going to Glendale, California, and prefer to fly into Burbank. I can use Google Flights and find out which options are the best to get into Burbank.

I learned, Southwest offers a nonstop flight to Burbank and can decide to pay a little more to get there quicker. As you can see in the picture above, it appears to be the only carrier flying nonstop on this day to Burbank. This will help me make an informed traveling decision.

Like everything else, air travel is much more expensive nowadays and finding ways to save is key. That’s why Southwest being on Google Flights is so clutch.
